An event announced yesterday, which will be held in May during EDC Las Vegas, has once again raised the hopes of thousands of fans for a return to the trance genre of the Breda DJ and producer
The pairing of Tiësto and trance music is now what, for several years, has become more than a wish: a real obsession for nostalgic trance music lovers, like us: the “great return” to trance music to which thousands of fans of the legend born in Breda in 1969 dream, seems to have now become the last act, maybe definitive, to celebrate the nostalgia that has seen in recent years, several returns to the scene of artists or a sound in general that recalls “old school” trance.
In recent years Tijs, undisputed leader of an EDM panorama that very often embraces the pop/commercial of considerable success after the definitive abandonment of trance music around 2009, after his Kaleidoscope album, has attempted or experimented with something that was close to trance: he did it with the still active project, VER:WEST, alias born in 2020 that unleashed the first euphoria of old fans but that left its mark on a purely progressive genre. Instead, he had enchanted us just two years ago with the remix of Ray Of Solar by Swedish House Mafia, in that context we had really appreciated a musical harmony worthy of note, really close to trance.
The wave of techno music in recent years at festivals around the world has also pushed him, like many others, to return to playing “faster” rhythms and his legendary version of Adagio For Strings from 2004 has returned to be played at various events, rekindling nostalgia in the hearts of fans and … a glimmer of hope.
Yesterday, hope was further fueled by Tiësto’s announcement that he will be hosting a set at EDC Las Vegas on May 18th, which bears the name of the famous trance compilation In Search Of Sunrise: born in 1999, the iconic compilation, released almost every year on BlackHole Recordings, is among the most famous for the trance genre and last year celebrated its 25th birthday, honored by several historic trance icons who released their mixes of hits.
It’s not yet clear whether the fact that his DJ set, scheduled for EDC Las Vegas, could mark a clear return to trance music for Tiësto: what is certain is that the title of the event and the legendary compilation that he himself created in 1999, bear that unmistakable name, In Search Of Sunrise, but the suggestion leads us to think that the music that we will go to listen to in Las Vegas on May 18, with the first light of dawn, could be a clear tribute to the genre that made him famous in the world and that he himself made historic, now too many years ago.
