After debuting in Rotterdam during the 25th anniversary celebrations of A State Of Trance, Ben Gold’s new musical direction is ready to explode
That the London-based producer’s artistic vision was evolving had already become clear several months ago. His recent creative output, spread across releases on Armada Music, Bebé Recordings and Slash, has reshaped the image of a producer who now embraces a broader and more expansive musical identity.
Long before today, as we know, he made a remarkable entrance into the world of trance music, delivering high-quality productions that explored pure styles ranging from melodic to uplifting. His album Rest Of Our Lives earned recognition as one of the most compelling releases of 2022.
Following that, the British artist remained at the forefront, closely linked to Armada through a series of notable collaborations with Superstrings (The Whip), Bo Bruce (Half Light) and Silva City (Manifesto) , consistently aligning his sound with the stylistic shifts of the era.
In recent times, the renewed interest among many producers and DJs in revisiting late ’90s trance influences has also led Ben to recognize this as the right direction for the present moment. Faster BPMs, acid elements and underground influences have become central to his latest productions. How You Feelin, Kick It, and Blackcard are just a few examples of this stylistic shift, which has made a significant impact on charts and streaming numbers.
For this reason, Ben Gold has chosen to expand musically by adopting his surname, Lawton, as a new alias.
The symbolic track marking this debut, Bad Potato, set for release soon, was introduced through a playful promotional campaign during the Rotterdam weekend ,first at Frites Unique on the afternoon of February 28, and later that night during his A State Of Trance set at Ahoy Rotterdam.
The feeling is that these two projects will move forward in parallel, united by a musical vision that strongly resonates with the current landscape. A scene that is rapidly expanding, drawing inspiration from the old school and being reinterpreted by a new generation of passionate fans, bringing a revived style back into the spotlight, one that has found in Ben, one of its leading interpreters.
