The trance reinterpretation of the famous orchestral air by Johann Sebastian Bach will be released on April 3 on In Trance We Trust
We had to wait almost a year from the first time it was played at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami by Armin van Buuren in March last year: finally, just ahead of the event it was originally written for, Always You was officially released on February 26, a collaboration between Armin van Buuren, Richard Durand and Dicosis.
Pretty much everything has already been said about this track, and the only real question among fans is which year it should win Tune Of The Year on A State Of Trance, will it finally be this year? Beyond rankings and accolades, one thing is certain: this is already a historic record, as well as a beautiful one and that was clear from the very first listen.
Richard Durand has been part of the trance elite for years, with many of his productions easily reaching the top of fans’ preferences, whether in vocal collaborations or instrumental tracks often inspired by the genre’s deepest roots. His latest solo release, Rubicon dropped at the end of January on Future Sound Of Egypt, has been widely played and appreciated thanks to its rich and powerful sound.
Further proof of the Dutch DJ and producer’s versatility comes on April 3, when his trance reinterpretation of Air on the G String will be released on the iconic In Trance We Trust label: the track is originally a composition by Johann Sebastian Bach dating back to 1730, though it is best known in its 1871 violin arrangement by August Wilhelmj, widely considered one of the most iconic in classical music history:
The fusion between classical music and trance is nothing new: the most famous example remains Adagio for Strings originally composed in 1936 by Samuel Barber and later reimagined between the late ’90s and early 2000s by William Orbit, Ferry Corsten, and finally Tiësto, whose 2004 version became the most iconic. It was actually Tiësto himself who supported Richard Durand’s new track during a recent episode of Prismatic 011 and, of course, also Armin van Buuren in the recent episode 1267 of A State Of Trance:
Richard Durand’s version of Air on the G String does not alter or distort the original violin theme; instead, it guides it into a techno-trance drop that deliberately creates a strong contrast, before bringing the motif back towards the end.
