The Lyon-based DJ and producer takes a 2006 minimal techno classic and transforms it into a powerful and engaging techno-trance remix, still awaiting an official release
In recent times, the trance music landscape has been evolving, driven in part by the growing openness of many producers, often rooted in other genres, toward sounds closer to this universe: the result is a wave of productions that, while not strictly belonging to trance, clearly draw from its atmospheres and still manage to win over a wide audience as well as more attentive listeners.
This is the case for Mathieu Mourareau, better known as Space 92, who in recent years has carved out a significant space for himself thanks to a series of solid, well-crafted releases, gaining recognition even beyond his core genre. Within this context comes his latest interpretation of Oxia – Domino, which, despite not yet having an official release date, is already gaining strong traction across social media.
The rework develops around the iconic original melody, enhanced by a driving beat and a high-BPM drop that delivers intense energy. This harder version blends elements of peak time techno while still maintaining clear references to hard trance: for this reason, it is receiving strong support and appreciation from many producers across the scene.
The original track by French producer Olivier Raymond, needs little introduction: released in 2006 as part of the Speicher 34 EP, its hypnotic and instantly recognizable melody has become an icon of minimal techno. Over the years, it has been remixed by several artists, including David Guetta, and in 2017 it experienced a revival with a re-release as a single accompanied by new remixes.
Space 92’s recent releases on HILOMATIK label, along with collaborations with HI-LO and Maddix, clearly highlight the evolution of his sound, which is now more open and influenced by multiple genres.
His recent appearance at Dreamstate SoCal further confirms this broader direction: this remix is another clear example, already supported by Armin van Buuren, who played it during his B2B set with Deep Dish on Friday February 27 in Rotterdam, as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of A State Of Trance.
