The London trio have announced something special coming next year to celebrate their 25 anniversary
It can be said that Anjunabeats label and Above & Beyond were born almost at the same time: when Paavo and Jono wrote Vol. 1 in 2000, their alias bore the name of their Anjunabeats label, they then decided to change their name, calling themselves Free State but just a little later, still in that year, with Tony, their legendary remix of Chakra – Home paved the way for a collaboration that marked the history of trance definitively in the years to come, called Above & Beyond.
It would be impossible to summarize in a few words the story of twenty-four years of legendary music and as many famous aliases that we all know but we can certainly say that the music of Paavo, Jono and Tony has represented and still represents one of the highest quality levels in the history of trance and progressive music and not only, in which it was difficult to stumble upon melodies that did not represent a gentle soul and dreamy atmospheres, but at the same time, humans.
During the celebrations for ABGT600 at the Hipódromo de las Américas in Mexico City last October 19, this message did not go unnoticed during their DJ sets:
“Next year, we celebrate our 25 anniversary”
It was clear that something was cooking and in fact, a few hours ago, Above & Beyond made it official on their channel with this video:
In 2025, in fact, Above & Beyond will celebrate 25 years of their career and behind the scenes it seems that big celebrations are coming: something similar had been attempted at the end of 2020 to celebrate 20 years of Anjunabeats and Above & Beyond, but, due to the pandemic, the celebrations were reduced by celebrating ABGT400 away from the public, with the famous boat ride on the River Thames.
The details of the event are not yet known: it could be a tour, the release of celebratory compilations, perhaps coinciding with the release of a new album (it’s been almost 7 years since Common Ground and many of their new songs played during ABGT600 have yet to be released) but we can say right now that 2025 for Paavo, Jono and Tony will be a year to remember.
