The new track with TW3LVE, Let Go, was released this Friday and marks a clear return to trance sonorities, following the announcement of his third album, True North, set for release on May 29
On October 18, 2014, at Madison Square Garden in New York, the historic 100th episode of Group Therapy 100 took place. For many, that event stands as a defining moment in shaping the future direction of trance. During the set by Above & Beyond, the tracks Elements and Atlas, the latter produced with Wrechiski, were premiered for the first time on Anjunabeats, marking Jason Ross’ official debut on the label and immediately showcasing his musical quality.
From that moment on, the American artist established himself as a key figure in shaping the progressive trance sound of the London-based label.
However, toward the end of the last decade, Jason chose to challenge himself by exploring new directions. His musical journey gradually moved away from the pure concept of trance, while still remaining rooted in the progressive realm and expanding through numerous collaborations.
His sound evolution leaned heavily into the EDM spectrum, incorporating strong influences from dubstep, melodic bass, and productions aimed at a broader, more mainstream audience. This phase also marked his transition to Ophelia Records, founded by Seven Lions, where one of the most significant collaborations of his career took shape, building on their earlier work together on Higher Love in 2017.
Jason further solidified this new artistic identity with the release of 1000 Faces (2020) and later Atlas (2022), projects built around a melodic bass/dubstep/vocal concept enriched by key collaborations.
A new turning point now seems to be emerging.
Through social media, the artist has announced his third studio album, True North, scheduled for release on May 29. In his own words, “this album is about finding your way back to what feels true” a statement that suggests a return to his original sonic roots after a project developed over the past three years.
This direction is further reinforced by the recent release of Let Go (Lost In Dreams Records), created alongside TW3LVE (who had already collaborated with him last year on Fast Forward, and more recently worked with Giuseppe Ottaviani on Feel It Coming under the OTTAGON project). The track is strongly rooted in progressive trance, and Jason himself has enthusiastically referenced the return of his so-called “TRANCE ROSS” persona.
While there is still no official confirmation regarding the full direction of the upcoming album, both the early impressions and his recent statements point toward a genuine return to the influences of his early career, a path we’ve seen several artists take in recent times. Given Jason Ross’ proven quality, expectations are understandably high for a standout release.
True North will be released on May 29th via Lost In Dreams Records.
