It’s now been over twenty years, since 2004, to be precise, that the spring season of trance music has had a fixed, almost ritual appointment: the release of the ultimate mixed compilation: and, as tradition dictates, behind the decks there is always Armin van Buuren.
In 2026, however, the anticipation carried even greater significance: the twenty-five years of A State of Trance mark a historic milestone, and all the curiosity surrounding this new compilation was focused on one key question: can it truly capture all the nuances the radioshow has explored over the past two and a half decades?
The full tracklist of the A State of Trance 2026 compilation, released today, strongly confirms that it does: the project is built as a true journey through contemporary trance, structured this year into three distinct mixes called Pulse, Frequency, and Energy.
Pulse (Mix 1) opens the experience in the name of continuity, bringing back to the forefront that elegant and immersive progressive trance sound that has always defined the beginning of these compilations. Here, refined and already much-discussed productions stand out, from River In Me by Ruben de Ronde & Amber Revival, to the remix by Max Styler of the classic Greece 2000 by Three Drives. There’s also no shortage of new collaborations from Armin, once again showcasing his ability to reinvent himself: from ARGY with Like A Child, to Skytech with She A Freak, and the synergy with Andrew Bayer on Serendipity:

With Frequency (Mix 2), the pace shifts up a gear: BPMs rise, the energy intensifies, and the more powerful, melodic side of trance takes over. Already available today on YouTube, this mix represents the beating heart of the compilation. Inside, we find the official anthem of the 25th anniversary and this year’s festival, Always You, produced by Armin alongside Richard Durand and DICOSIS. The opening, however, is entrusted to one of the most played tracks of the moment: Lost In Time, created by Armin with Alle Farben and ROSY. Among the other highlights are also new productions from SUPERSTRINGS, including their NEON DUSK PROTOCOL, leading up to the emotional and sonic impact of Lacrimosa by DIM3NSION and StanV:
