Previewed in London on May 28 during a special DJ set, ‘Anjunabeats Volume 17’ marks the return of Above & Beyond’s compilation series with its most expansive and ambitious entry yet, after almost a four-year hiatus: featuring thirty-five tracks, it moves through the many shades of progressive and trance in a sonic journey that both reflects and stays true to the elegant, familiar sound of the Anjunabeats universe
Among the most prestigious and recognisable compilation series in the global trance scene, the Anjunabeats compilations mixed by Above & Beyond undoubtedly hold a special place: today, almost four years after the release of the previous instalment, the highly anticipated Anjunabeats Volume 17 has finally arrived.
The compilation was preceded by a carefully planned promotional campaign and a special listening event held on May 28 at 26 Leake Street in London, where Above & Beyond premiered the tracks featured on the new edition with a gathered group of fans, traditionally divided into two continuous mixes.
Anjunabeats Volume 17 perfectly reflects one of the most interesting trends shaping today’s trance and progressive landscape: the dialogue between artists who helped define the genre and a new generation of producers increasingly drawn to refined, melodic sounds that reconnect with the scene’s roots. At the same time, the compilation preserves the elegance and sonic identity that have long defined the Anjunabeats sound.
In many ways, the release was foreshadowed by When I Look In Your Eyes, the latest collaboration between Above & Beyond and Justine Suissa, which was released on May 6 and serves as the closing track of the project. The trio also contributes several productions that remained unreleased following their debut at ABGT600 in Mexico City in 2024, including Eye Q, the Club Mix of Palermo (with PROFF), and two particularly noteworthy reworks: their reinterpretation of Axwell’s 2004 house classic Feel The Vibe and their remix of one of trance’s most iconic late-’90s records, Heaven Scent by Bedrock.
Among the previously unheard tracks, the atmospheric Major Drop stands out alongside We Are The Light, a new collaboration with Jerome Isma-Ae and Opposite The Other that proved to be one of the most emotionally engaging moments of the entire compilation. Also featured are the Club Mixes of two tracks taken from Above & Beyond’s latest album, Bigger Than All Of Us: When You Believe, featuring Victoria Horn, and Sailing Off The End Of The World, featuring Richard Bedford. Both versions inject additional energy into songs that were already highly appreciated in their original form.
As tradition dictates, the opening stages of the mix lean towards progressive house territory: here we find ANUQRAM’s latest collaborations, Wake Me Up with Second Sine and Sonderwave with Anfourage, alongside their remix of Blood Runs Blue by mor•a•mor & MYRNE.
One of the most brilliant collaborations of 2026 also finds its place on the compilation: Attraction by Ferry Corsten and Marsh: originally released in two different versions, the track appears here in an exclusive Ferry x Marsh Blend version, combining the strongest elements of both originals into a seamless new interpretation.
Naturally, several long-standing Anjunabeats favourites are also represented: Jaytech appears with Ultramarine, Ronski Speed delivers the enchanting Melody Beneath, while Sunny Lax returns with Gravity Of Sleep, one of his latest vocal productions.
Significant space is also dedicated to Darren Tate, a key figure not only within the Anjunabeats universe but within trance as a whole: the British producer contributes three tracks to the compilation: A Child Of The Times, Return Of The Vries (a title sure to raise a smile among long-time fans!) and Taking Us Higher, his collaboration with Genix. Oliver Smith also appears on the compilation with his remix of the classic Atlantis – Fiji, and joined Above & Beyond as special guest during their set at the May 28 London event.
Naturally, these are just some of the highlights: across its thirty-five tracks, Anjunabeats Volume 17 offers a far broader snapshot of the current Anjunabeats sound, showcasing the depth, diversity and musical vision that continue to define the label. Without attempting any stylistic revolution, Anjunabeats Volume 17 succeeds in accurately representing the current identity of Anjunabeats while capturing the meeting point between the rich legacy of trance and the trends shaping its future.
