Seven years after ‘Common Ground‘, increasingly insistent rumours about Above & Beyond’s new album seem to be about to be confirmed
What we comes to mind every time the Above & Beyond is about to release a new track are the next three words: they never disappoint. And it couldn’t be otherwise.
We’ve already talked about how important this 2025 for Paavo, Jono and Tony, busy with the celebrations of the 25 years of the Anjunabeats label which coincides with their 25 years of career, celebrations that will be held, as we announced a few days ago, in New York on May 17th at The Brooklyn Mirage, with a line-up announced that promises a spectacular event:
It’s obvious that all this coincides with just as much new music, which seems to be on the way: we got a big taste of it during the ABGT600 celebrations in Mexico City last October, as, as often happens, these annual events that celebrate the birthday of the radio show are the showcase for the new music signed Above & Beyond and Anjunabeats.
Although one can imagine what the three guys have in store when it comes to their new music, every time emotion and wonder take over: especially if, accompanying them in their new projects are their three irreplaceable team-mate: Justine Suissa, Richard Bedford and, of course, Zoë Johnston.
During this 2025, songs that are already announced as legendary for trance music will be released by Above & Beyond together with these three icons, and not only with them, and it looks like the release of their new album is imminent after seven years from Common Ground: last night, during episode 619 of ABGT, Tony said, by the way, “not long now, folks …” and to start, it seems that the first track that we will listen to and that will be released will be precisely the new one with Zoë Johnston.
Above & Beyond in fact have released yesterday a short preview with the phrase “There will come a time …” in which you can see Paavo, Jono and Tony busy in the recording studio with Zoë singing the song: the new track, heard for the first time during ABGT600 last year, has the provisional title of Quicksand (Don’t Go): the words reported are the first verse of the track, a clear reference to the upcoming release of the new track.
As mentioned, the track has already been played several months ago and re-proposed in some of the latest events in which Above & Beyond have participated and confirms once again the irreplaceable bond created over twenty years between the English singer and the legendary trance trio: an unmistakable voice that communicates the reality of some sensations that clashes with the eternal doubt of holding on or letting go, which rise gently towards an engaging and nostalgic trance drop.
These are ingredients that have characterized, since 2004, all the collaborations between Above & Beyond and Zoë Johnston, starting from the legendary No One On Earth (2004) and Good For Me (2006), among the most beautiful vocal trance records ever created and, without mentioning all the equally incredible tracks released over the years, it’s necessary to mention their most recent ones: There’s Only You (2019), Reverie (2020) and the very latest, last year, Crazy Love, each one different from the other but incredibly and equally wonderful in their own way.
Above & Beyond’s latest official work was released last December, the captivating instrumental EP Tranquility Base Vol. 2: it’s best to stay tuned so you don’t miss out on news about the release of so much music from Above & Beyond that’s already exciting us right now, as always.
