Four years after the last single, ‘Orenda’, the most famous alias of Ferry Corsten will release the new track on May 16th on Flashover Recordings
The “second generation” of the Gouryella project, the one composed exclusively by Ferry Corsten, which re-emerged ten years ago, 2015, with the now-legendary Anahera, has carved out a place of honor in recent years among the most influential projects of the global trance scene, just like twenty-five years ago, when alongside the legend of Rotterdam there was another undisputed icon of “old style” trance music, who together made up the alias Gouryella.
The ingredients that define the project have unchanged over time: simple, but cooked in the best possible way and appealing to everyone: a piano or synthesizer riff that builds into a long uplifting symphony, which rises to the right point to give us goosebumps.
Four years have passed since the last single released under Ferry Corsten’s most famous alias: Orenda was the last track released as Gouryella, in 2021: from then on Ferry Corsten temporarily set aside the project, dedicating himself to other music, much of which we found in the incredible album CONNECT, released last year.
Now, however, Gouryella is about to return and will return on May 16 with a special release: celebrating the career of a global icon of soul music, the American Roberta Cleopatra Flack who passed away last February 24; her The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, from 1969 (originally a folk song written in 1957 by Ewan McColl), included in the album First Take and re-proposed a few years later, in 1974, by Marcia Griffiths in a reggae key, is a song already known in trance scene: the lyric of refrain “the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave” was in fact already taken up by Way Out West in 1996 for The Gift, who in turn had taken up Miss Joanna Law’s voice in First Time Ever (1990), a downtempo cover of the same original song.
On May 16, Flashover Recordings will release Marama (Moon & Stars), by Gouryella feat. Saskia Lie Atjam, female Dutch singer and songwriter, singer already known to Ferry Corsten fans as the vocalist of the legendary System F – Cry from 2000.
