Yes, Tiësto really played trance: a tribute to his legendary roots in Las Vegas !

After many years, the Dutch legend brings back the debut sound of his career in a sunrise live set that will go down in history

This morning at EDC Las Vegas, what many fans considered one of their biggest dreams finally came true: witnessing Tiësto return to the roots of true trance music. It’s hard to remember exactly the last time we saw him perform a fully trance DJ set, it’s been fifteen years since the renowned Dutch producer decided to take a new musical direction.

Over the years, and especially recently, hopes for a return to his roots have been fueled by a few signs: a progressive-sounding project reminiscent of his early style, VER:WEST, launched in 2020, and moments during his live sets when he dropped iconic trance track, sparking excitement among fans at a time when the electronic scene is rediscovering and reinterpreting the classic records of the past.

The anticipation for this event was incredibly high, especially after the March announcement, which came with a historic title: In Search of Sunrise. Right from the start, this name raised hopes of a set leaning toward the trance universe, perhaps with a more progressive twist.

What we actually witnessed, however, exceeded all expectations: Tiësto returned to the stage in his purest form, delivering a set that transported us back in time, straight to the golden era of his unmistakable sound.

But let’s take a step back. In Search of Sunrise 2025 set marked Tiësto’s second appearance at EDC Las Vegas 2025: in his first show, which took place the night before, the Dutch artist showcased the full power of his current pop-dance and progressibe house sound, sharing the stage with several prominent names from the modern electronic scene.

There was much curiosity surrounding the announcement of this second set: many wondered whether Tiësto would truly present a selection of tracks close to trance, perhaps even drawing from the most iconic parts of his career. The answer came loud and clear from the stage: the producer combined a musical journey between technical mastery, impeccable taste and nostalgia, bringing back all the elegance and sophistication that defined his early years:

The tracklist was a true celebration for die-hard fans, with a sequence of remixes and original tracks tied to legendary labels such as Songbird, In Trance We Trust and Black Hole Recordings, of course. There were direct nods to the era of In Search of Sunrise 6 – Ibiza compilation, and among the most emotional moments was a brand-new remix of Silence reinterpreted by Tiësto himself, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the legendary remix. All in all, this DJ set felt like Tiësto carefully selected some of the tracks he loved most during the golden years of his labels, paying tribute to an era that deeply shaped the history of trance.

But one question remains open, now: what did this return to his roots truly mean for him ? Was it simply a moment of nostalgia ? A heartfelt gift to his longtime fans ? Or perhaps the beginning of a new chapter, one capable of rekindling a dream that seemed long gone ?
