If, like us, you initially thought you were listening to a new Gouryella or Binary Finary track played by Armin van Buuren during his set at the Tomorrowland Freedom Stage, then know that this track has a distinctly Mediterranean origin: It is ‘Moonfire’, the new collaboration between Dim3nsion and Frankyeffe, featured on the upcoming ‘A State Of Trance Ibiza 2026’ compilation, out on August 28
For at least a year now, we have become increasingly accustomed to the strong return of the sounds that characterized what is commonly regarded as trance’s golden era, from the mid-1990s through the early 2000s. The resurgence of the purest trance sound is coming from different directions: on one hand, through legendary artists who have chosen to rediscover and revive those atmospheres; on the other, through a new generation of producers, many of whom were actually born during those years, who are enjoying reinterpreting that classic sound, often blended with rave and old-school sounds rooted in the European underground.
During Armin van Buuren’s celebrated set at the Freedom Stage on the first weekend of Tomorrowland last July, within what proved to be a true trance masterclass delivered by the legendary artist from Leiden, several tracks still identified as IDs certainly did not go unnoticed. Among them was a track that immediately stood out for its strong affinity with the old-school sound found in the early productions of Gouryella and Binary Finary
Played by Armin for the first time, Moonfire initially fueled speculation about an unprecedented collaboration between Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten, perhaps even under the Gouryella alias: today, however, we know that the story is quite different.
The track is in fact signed by two of the most influential and prolific artists of 2026: Dim3nsion and Frankyeffe. The former, who certainly needs no introduction, is enjoying an extraordinary year, thanks in particular to the overwhelming success of Zarabanda, released at the end of 2025 and now a constant presence in the sets of the biggest trance festivals, as well as his collaboration with Stan V on the stunning Lacrimosa.
On the other side, we find Frankyeffe, the Italian DJ and producer originally associated with sounds closer to techno, who, as he had promised last year, has embarked in 2026 on an increasingly consistent journey towards melodic productions deeply rooted in trance. An evolution that has already delivered results: among his most recent works, the Out Of This World EP and MOVEYOURBODY perfectly embody the direction he has taken and the goal he announced.
With Moonfire, the two artists, one Spanish and one Italian, offer us a clear tribute to the great productions of the late ’90s and early 2000s, built around a pure, melodic and highly evocative uplifting sound, capable of immediately taking us back to an era when trance still had the power to feel like something completely new.
