In 1995, William Orbit released the first version of Pieces In A Modern Style, one of the most representative works of the English artist’s career, probably the one that best expresses his ability to transform and dare through music.
Adagio is the piece composed by Samuel Barber in 1936, on which William imprinted his own abilities, giving life to an extended, full and musically complete anthem, featured on the 1995 album.
Towards the end of the millennium, in 1999, a young Ferry Corsten demonstrated his appreciation for Orbit and this track by producing a remix that would be included in the reissue of the same album that year.
The Rotterdam producer’s trance reinterpretation still represents, more than twenty-five years later, one of his greatest personal visions of this musical genre: a work capable of taking William’s original symphony and elevating it to its fullest potential, exploding into a chorus that, in terms of structure and technique, has never been touched by the passage of time.
Within the electronic music landscape, and particularly in trance, William Orbit’s contribution with this track has taken on historic significance: together with other versions, Adagio For Strings stands as one of the most epic trance anthems of all time.
The legacy William Orbit has left to music, extending far beyond trance, will remain immeasurable.
