In the late 1990s, Ferry Corsten was already an established trance producer, even though he had not yet released music under his own name: a name that, as we know, would go on to become a true symbol of the scene in the following decades. At that time, however, his projects such as Moonman and Gouryella were already absolute reference points for trance.
Among his other aliases, Pulp Victim also stands out, created in 1997 and capable of leaving its mark with several notable productions: in particular, in 1998 came the sound of The World. Released on Playground Productions, it is an intense and captivating vocal trance track, included in the self-titled EP along with two other tracks, Another World and Mind Over Matter.
In The World, the choir elements from Oro by Moya Brennan (1992) stand out, an iconic and solemn voice in new age and Celtic music, who has recently passed away.
The following year, the track was re-released in the ’99 version and reinterpreted by Ferry Corsten himself under the Moonman alias, as well as by Lange: two remixes that further helped define that euphoric and driving energy typical of late-millennium trance.
Finally, in 2014, the track was reissued by Amsterdam Trance Classics, bringing together the most relevant remixes released over the years: alongside the Moonman and Lange versions, notable contributions include those by DJ Quicksilver, Three Drives On A Vinyl, DJ Tandu, Olav Basoski, Barbarus and Viper Rmx.
