In 2010, Sanne Boomhouwer, better known simply as Susana, released her debut studio album, Closer, following a string of successful collaborations that had established her as one of the most beloved voices in the trance scene. Most notably, the legendary Shivers with Armin van Buuren in 2005, although her catalogue already featured many other outstanding productions. The album takes its name from its opening track, Closer, one of the most elegant and captivating collaborations of 2010.
Produced alongside The Blizzard and Omnia, Closer was released in May 2010 and beautifully blends the dreamy, atmospheric sound that had already become The Blizzard’s trademark with the rising talent of the Ukrainian DJ and producer Omnia. Combined with Susana’s refined and emotive vocals, the result is a true progressive vocal trance gem.
Released on S107 Recordings, the track was accompanied by a stylish music video that perfectly reflects its emotional and melodic atmosphere. Its quality was widely recognised, earning it the No. 6 spot in the A State of Trance Top 20 of 2010.
Closer was far from the only collaboration between Omnia and The Blizzard: later that same year they released Metanoia, followed by My Inner Island in 2011, two more outstanding productions that further cemented the success of this creative partnership and remain fan favourites to this day.
